
September 17. 2017 – A roadside bomb killed a government official and 5 levies in Bajaur. The TTP claimed responsibility for the attack.
The area of Tangi Garigal (تنگئ گڑیگال), where the attack occurred is in Mamond Tehsil, which is about 25 kilometers from Khar, the main town of Bajaur Agency. The Nation reports:
Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) spokesman Mohammad Khurassani said the militants planted an improvised explosive device “to target security personnel” in the Bajaur Agency area that is part of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA).
The TTP’s released a statement saying that it accepted responsibility for “a successful attack on the Fawad Ala’s caravan.”
Fawad Ala Khan the tehsildar for Mamond, who belonged to the Mohmand tribe (ET), was reportedly killed in the attack along with 5 of his levies guards named: Muatabar, Berader, Jan Muhammad,Yusaf Khan, and Rasheed Zaman. Another guard remains critically injured. Khan’s vehicle was reportedly targeted (ET).
Security forces surrounded the area and began a search operation following the attack.
